Bituin: One-hit wonder

Sayang. Bituin Escalante is a really fine singer. But she’s a one-hit wonder in the local music industry. There was never a follow-up to her one hit, Kung Ako Na Lang Sana. Too bad because she’s one of the really good singers we have locally.

I think it’s the looks. Filipinos can be discrimination when it comes to the looks of a lady singer. I mean look at Rhada. She was also one of the really good singers we have but because she’s a plus size, nothing happened to her music career. She’s very pretty. But when a woman is a plus size here in this country, you are confined to doing slapstick comedy!

Here’s Kung Ako Na Lang Sana for your listening pleasure…

The music video was directed by Ryan Agoncillo.

I do hope Star Records will give her another break. Perhaps, even an album of cover songs first to re-introduce her to the buying public. Before another hit like this song.

Only in the Philippines…

Only in the Philippines could you find someone who can’t even carry a tune holding a solo concert. Oh, I need not name names. There are so many of them I am sure you know at least two celebrities guilty of this.

Imagine a man or woman with a pretty face drawing a huge crowd because of it. But this man or woman has a voice slightly better than a frog’s. And he or she is belting a tune!

Terrible! Only in the Philippines!

105.1 Crossover

My all-time favorite radio station is really 105.1 Crossover! The songs are the perfect companion to a night of hard work and lots of thinking to be done. You can relax to the sound of soothing music and not bothered by the noise like with other stations. You can put the music in the background and still hear your thoughts. It won’t disturb you at all! I really love it!

The station was gone on air for a while. Their web site is still under construction. Thank goodness there’s an alternative web site where you can listen to their live streaming.

What would I do without Crossover Manila? Love the station so much! Do listen and you will find out why I am such a fan!

Local radio stations' web sites

Web sites of radio stations here in the Philippines are not yet that ready for online streaming. Only a few of them are equipped to give online users a good connection. Monster Radio RX 93.1 and Magic TM 89.9 are the only two radio stations that are above average in their online streaming capabilities. The rest offer mediocre live streaming. Mellow 94.7 and WRock 96.3, two of my staples when online, would buffer from time to time. 105.1 Crossover, on the other hand, offers a good connection. Only, you have to go to another web site to live streaming. Their web site offers a broken link.

I hope that this 2010, more local radio stations will find themselves improving their online presence. And live streaming is really a must especially there are so many Filipinos living and working outside the country whose another source of connection to their homeland is listening to local radio stations.

My frustration is…

If there is one frustration I have in life, that’s I cannot carry a tune :( Kaya I listen na lang instead. Hehehe…

I wish I could sing ala Nina. I’ve watched her perform live and it’s worth your every cent. She’s a great singer, underrated actually. Last I’ve seen her on tv was at ASAP but I don’t know if she’s still a mainstay there.

What I like about her is that she does not scream out a song’s lyrics, unlike other local female singers. Plus, she does not go around creating unnecessary gimmicks so people will notice her.

So without further ado, here’s a video of Nina’s Fall For You. Read more »
