Choosing to live healthy

As you grow older, you experience aches in your joints. To avoid experiencing that, get yourself a joint supplement. That’s what a family friend advised my dad. I think he’s right. But I also think that when a person is aging, he or she should be responsible enough to know what is healthy for him or her. The person should also start living a healthy life to prevent not only aches in the joints but also to avoid other illnesses.

Or even those who are not yet aging. It is better to start living a healthy life even when we are still young.

Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Have you seen Eclipse yet? I got mixed reviews from friends. I saw some rants on Twitter that Kristen Stewart’s wig was really annoying. I read in a local movie review that the only good thing you’ll get out of the movie is Taylor Lautner’s abs! I was laughing so hard while reading that review.

Anyway, whatever it is, I will still watch the movie. Hopefully tomorrow or next week. I will just feast my eyes on Rob Pattinson and my money spent will be worth it. The same thing that I did on the first two Twilight Saga movies.

So what do you think of the movie?

Early holiday list

I am already listing down possible gift ideas for family and close relatives. Accessories, bags, ipods, educational toys. For my aunts, I am thinking of a gift certificate to the spa. For the uncles, I am thinking of ties or shot glasses since some love to drink.

I really prepare my holiday gift list early. I don’t like finding myself rushing to buy Christmas gifts. I prefer to shop as early as October. That way, I can still take stock and find out if I forget someone.

Given another chance

Odie is the last person to be assigned to take care of the baby shower invitations but since every one is busy, he was given the task. Surprisingly, he did very well! He took his task seriously, even devoting three days of his vacation leave to make sure the invitations are done on time.

I think you just need to give a person another chance to be able to prove to us that they can do it. Look at Odie! He is handy with his pencil and ruler but give him a set of instructions to do and he will get lost. But since he was given the responsibility and given the free wheel to do things his way, he was able to accomplish the task splendidly!

Handy with tools

My uncle has almost every tool you can think of. Garage tools as well as shed tools. He is a part time carpenter, that’s why. He just loves tinkering with things. Whenever any body in the clan needs something fixed or repaired, my uncle is called to do it or assist. He always brings his box cutter with him. It’s a big help. You would always see him using it in tasks he does.

I feel lucky that someone in the family is handy with tools. At least we have someone to call and rely on should we encounter an emergency at home. Broken pipes, clogged sinks and toilets, leaking roof. Even a broken chair leg and chipped furniture at home can be done easily. That’s how handy my uncle is with his tools.

Motivation for employees

My friend’s company is giving away something to the employees once a month. These are excess promotional items that the company is using in recruitment. My friend got one of the custom water bottles given away last week. This week they’re giving away mouse pads and CD holders.

It reminded me of the time I was working for a call center company. During my stint they are very generous with cash incentives. But it’s mostly given to the agents and officers of the operations department. Still, you get motivated when you hear things like this inside the company.

Looking less beautiful

A local actress is in great need of the best fat burner in the market. She is really big nowadays and she is having a hard time hiding it from the cameras. Gossip columns are giving her unsolicited advices saying that she really needs to shed off the excess weight because it’s not her and she’s looking less beautiful on screen.

I think she’s listening because in a recent interview, she said that she’s doing something about her weight issues. She’s doing pilates and is currently working out with a personal fitness trainer. In no time at all, she’ll probably be back to her old shape.

Tuesday Vargas’s wedding

I am not a fan of Tuesday Vargas but I do like her acting in Here Comes The Bride. She can be really funny without trying to. I was reading PEP.ph when I saw the link to her wedding video. I watched it out of curiosity and boy, did I loved it!

Tuesday got married to Coy Placido of Session Road band. They’ve been together for years before they tied the knot at the Discovery Shores in Boracay. They created their own vows and Tuesday’s vow was so darn funny! Watch the video below…

Did you like it? The songs used were so apt for the video. I really like how they made their wedding entertaining for everyone. Imagine injecting humor into your wedding vow and making your guests laugh and cry at the same time! Weddings should be like this, don’t you think?

Travel money

The credit card processing will take about two weeks, according to my friend who works at the credit card company. My sister asked her help because she is expecting to get her credit card in time for her travel to an Asian country. She is going there partly for business and partly for leisure. She’s already planned everything and the credit card is a part of it.

I am not in favor of using credit card all the time. But when traveling, it is much safer to bring one instead of cash. That’s what my sister has in mind, too.

Steps to achieve his dream

He is taking steps to achieve his dream of becoming a lawyer. He’s been reading law books since he entered high school. He’s consulting lawyers in the local neighborhood for help with the interpretation. He’s been doing this for years as a way to become more knowledgeable about his area of interest.

Now that he’s about to take up his law degree, he is taking lsat prep courses as a way to make sure he’ll get into the best law schools in the country. He already has his eye on one but he’s keeping his options open.

Self-control and discipline

There are crash diets that work. My cousin tried one and she really lost weight because of it. I think it’s just a matter of maintaining the weight loss that should be taken into consideration. And it’s in the person’s self-control and discipline.

Admittedly, I have little of both. Self-control and discipline, that is. The thing is I grew up getting what I want and good food is what I want always. But I am acknowledging the need to lose weight. Or I might just keel over and die one of these days.

Clean restrooms

The fruit shake that the little kid was drinking spilled over her clothes. There was even some on her mom’s dress, too. Good thing the restrooms in the mall are similar to that of a hotel where there are separate corners for powder only and sinks. The hand dryers are even the good ones which can easily dry a wet dress.

So off they went to the restroom and washed the portion of their clothes were the fruit shake spilled on. This is what I like about clean restrooms. You don’t hesitate to go inside the use it.

Clogged sinks

My aunt’s two sinks in her kitchen are both clogged. She suspects that her helper dumps used cooking oil in it. She taught her two helpers to pour used cooking oil into a container which she donates to a local organization where it is being recycled into dishwashing soaps.

She is having a hard time getting someone to fix it because the road leading to their house is being repaired by the local government. You can say that my aunt is really not happy with their situation at home right now. If I know my aunt, she will end up buying new sinks just to fix what needed fixing right now.

Changing bad eating habits

Speaking of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, I wish we have someone like him here in the country who can help us make a better choice. There’s just too many temptations around us 24/7. More and more fastfood joints are appearing in every corner of the city. Since we these choices every time, we end up with bad eating habits. And these habits are making us more prone to sickness and a shorter life.

I remember a friend of mine told me a couple of months ago that it’s okay for her to eat fastfood meals every day. Anyway, she has a top rated diet pill that she can turn to should she get really fat. I told her that it isn’t just losing the excess weight. It is also about what’s happening inside our body that should concern us.

We can change our bad eating habits if we really want to. It’s all about making a tough decision and sticking to it no matter what.

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution

Jamie Oliver

Top celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is facing a tough time right now. England’s health ministry is not happy and optimistic about his efforts to change the eating habits of his fellowmen. England’s new health minister, Andrew Lansley, says “lecturing” people on how they should live doesn’t work unless individuals are willing to change their behavior.

Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution

We all know about Jamie’s efforts in changing the eating habits of schoolkids in the UK and the United States. He even spearheaded Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution together with Ryan Seacrest. It is gaining momentum as celebrities are openly backing him up in this endeavor. In fact, even Oprah herself is backing up this campaign.

But according to England’s health minister, Jamie’s efforts are actually pushing kids to resort to alternative ways to get the food they want. They shop outside the schools and even make unhealthier choices. Instead of eating in school (the healthy food Jamie is insisting on), more and more kids are not eating in school anymore.

I do think that Jamie’s Food Revolution campaign is indeed ambitious. It’s really hard to change bad eating habits of people anywhere in the world. But if it’s not him, who would start the change? Health minister Lansley should even thank Jamie for caring. What’s he doing to save his fellow Englishmen from a coronary early in life? It is an ambitious campaign because it will have a big impact in every one’s lives. We need more Jamie Oliver in the world if we really want change to happen. Schools should step up their efforts in helping the kids make healthy choices in the food they eat. Lansley shouldn’t blame Jamie for the kids who stop eating in school but should even help Jamie come up with a solution to this problem that came up.

To you health minister Lansley, instead of bashing Jamie Oliver for his good intentions, why not back him up or better yet, come up with your own plan for a healthy change?!?
